George Holmes Bixby Memorial Library

In association with Kuhn Riddle Architects, Amherst, Massachusetts, Michael Petrovick Architect, served as the Owners representative and as the project architect for the design of the circulation desk, interior fit-out and design-build of the geothermal heating and cooling system.

The original brick federal structure was constructed in 1823. The library had limited use of the lower-level and was unable to utilize the second floor due to structural and accessibility limitations.

The project included renovations to the existing 3-story building and a 3-story addition to provide an elevator, egress stair, restrooms and new circulation desk. Renovations to the existing building included upgrades for code compliance, structural improvements to the existing second floor for library use, energy conservation measures to the existing building, upgrades to the existing roof structure, restoration of the original interior architectural features, and installation of a closed loop geothermal heating and cooling system.
